Keep your files organised without slowing down

A simple naming system makes it easier to find the right file and share work with confidence.

Use a structure you can remember

Choose a few clear folders for source material, working files, review versions and final exports. Keep the same arrangement across projects. The best structure is one you and your collaborators can use without repeatedly checking a guide. Avoid burying an active project inside many unnecessary layers.

Make filenames informative

Include the project, a useful description and a version number. A name such as launch-portrait-v03 is easier to interpret than final-final-new. If dates matter to the project, use a consistent date order. Keep names readable and avoid relying on a single person’s memory to explain them.

Separate approval from exploration

Keep experiments in the working area and share review files from a clearly marked folder. When a version is approved, place the delivery copy in final exports. This makes it easier for someone joining the project to identify what can be used. Do not delete originals merely because a smaller delivery version exists.

Close the project deliberately

Check that the final files open, include any essential notes and keep an appropriate backup outside the main working location. Confirm permissions before sharing material that belongs to someone else. A short closing routine protects the effort already invested and makes future updates far less frustrating.
